Hi lovebugs! A little over a month ago I decided it was time to remove my nexplanon. As reliable and effective as it is, the side effects were not worth it. I went into my doctor with questions about my options and to talk about how my Nexplanon was making me feel and she straight faced, calmly asked if I wanted it out that day. Haha. I had no idea things would be progressing that fas. She also asked me if I had any other ideas or options I was considering and I mentioned an IUD and she suggest Kyleena to be probably the best option for me.
REMOVAL: My nexplanon was a little stubborn and apparently didn’t want to leave me so it took my doctor a little longer than usual to remove it. I do have a little scar on my underarm but nothing too crazy or that bothers me.
INSERTION: I didn’t know I’d be getting my IUD inserted that day so if I had I would’ve taken ibuprofen or Advil beforehand. According to my doctor I took it like a champ. It was a bit uncomfortable as it was being placed and felt like a pretty tough cramp but it wasn’t unbearable. The cramping started about 10-15 minutes after insertion and lasted consistently for a few days after and then would periodically come back in the following days/weeks.
So far my headaches don’t happen near as after and they are never as severe as before. I’ve also noticed I’m less fatigued. I just feel overall better. My period has been lighter, it has been lasting a little long but I know I’m still in the adjusting period. One thing I will say is I’m still cramping with my Kyleena but I’ve had my period since I was 10 years old and it has never really been too kind to me so this isn’t out of the norm for me. I’m hoping this is a much better experience than what I was going through for the last two plus years.
